There was a point where I thought I’d broken it.

Not vaguely. Not metaphorically. Actually broken it.

Like I’d crossed some line, done something I couldn’t undo, and whatever connection I’d had before… was gone.

I couldn’t feel it anymore.

And it didn’t feel like distance. It felt like exclusion.

There are things you do that you don’t come back from…

I carried that quietly.

And then I bumped into someone.

Not dramatically. Just one of those moments that lands.

And I said it. Or something close to it.

That I didn’t think I could connect anymore. That I’d gone too far. That I’d broken the rules too badly this time.

And they just looked at me like that wasn’t the point at all.

Like I’d missed the entire thing.

That is the premise.

You fuck up really badly.

You get it so badly wrong.

And you’re forgiven.

It’s the whole premise.

I was blown away. Or rather back.

And it was said so nonchalently.

The moment you think you’ve broken it…

is the moment you’re actually facing it.
