A beautiful summary of what ‘healing’ is by Stephen Levine. I don’t think it can be put better than this.
Understanding Fear and Its Impact
Fear is a fundamental human emotion, in the right situation it’s essential. In the wrong situation, less so! It can manifest through anxiety, distrust, anger, or even physical pain. Fear is not just a fleeting feeling but can become embedded into our very being, affecting our thoughts, actions, and overall well-being. When left unaddressed, it can create barriers that hinder our ability to experience joy, peace, and fulfillment. And we can’t have that now can we!
Fear’s impact on our lives can be profound, f*cking up our relationships, decisions, and outlook on life. It can cause us to withdraw, build emotional walls, and prevent us from fully engaging with the world around us. This breaks my heart. The scars left by fear are not always visible, but they are deeply felt and can shape our lives in significant ways, stopping us in our tracks.
The Love Antidote
Love, on the other hand, is a healing force. It has the power to dissolve fear and mend the wounds inflicted by it. Love, in its purest form, is unconditional and compassionate. It allows us to accept ourselves and others, flaws and all. When we touch our wounds with love, we begin the process of healing.
This means approaching our pain with kindness, understanding, and patience. And when we don’t, loving ourselves anyway. This is the Love Antidote rule!
It Starts And Ends With Love
There’s no need for having any shame or guilt around feeling fear (and if you do love those parts of yourself, they mean well). Practising self-compassion allows us to forgive ourselves for not forgiving ourselves and embrace our journey with a renewed sense of love.
Love yourself when you forget to nurture your physical, emotional, and mental well-being. There are so many options… creative expression, spending time in nature, putting on soft lights and listening to ASMR….. Shouting at the garden gate when it doesn’t shut as it bloody should. …..”Kisses for me, save all my kisses for me” resonating in the back of my head…..it’s all good…..and sometimes it’s not…. (we cannot know).
Loving Others
By offering support, empathy, and kindness to others, total strangers is my favourite, we create an environment where love and healing can flourish. Sometimes, the simple act of listening and being present can make a significant difference in someone’s healing journey. (Know that we are not responsible for fixing others. Each person’s healing journey is their own, and our role is to offer love and support without feeling obligated to stay in relationships or situations that do not nourish our own well-being. Love does not mean enduring negativity or harm; it means respecting ourselves enough to choose environments and relationships that uplift us).
Everyone has their struggles and challenges they need to face in their lives. Spreading love and kindness contributes to a more healing and harmonious world. If this is all you do in your life, you’ve lived well.
Embracing the Journey
Healing, love, is not a linear process but a continuous journey. There will be ecstacy and agony, but each step forward is a testament to our resilience and capacity for love. Embracing this journey with an open heart and mind allows us to grow and transform in ways we never thought possible.
By touching our wounds with love, we not only heal ourselves but also contribute to the healing of others. In a world often marred by fear and division, let us choose love as our guiding force, nurturing and healing one another along the way.
Love as the Answer to Fear
Love and connection with the heart is the answer to fear. Love gives us the strength to understand our fears, to reassure those parts of ourselves, this transforms them. In this way healing and loving are synonymous.
Conclusion
Love is the key. By embracing love and compassion, we can transform fear into a powerful force for healing and create a more loving and compassionate world.
