What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Jen May cares about your personal data (name, phone no. e-mail address, lesson notes) and only processes data for the following reasons:

  1. You have given consent. For example; you may give marketing consent to receive Jen May updates via mail.  This is done via a double opt in system with an unsubscribe option in the footer to remove yourself at any time.
  2. If it is necessary for the contract/service. Jen May keeps contact details to advise regarding service/contract of employment e.g. lesson times, bookings.
  3. If there are deemed legitimate interests. If it’s considered of clear benefit, minimal privacy impact, expected use.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service Privacy Policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

 If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

 Mail

If you choose to receive mail from Jen May you will be asked to share your e-mail address and first name (if you wish to).  Jen May uses a third party provider, mailerlite, to deliver mails.  For more information, please see Mailerlite’s privacy notice.  As noted above, mails are double opt-in and you may unsubscribe at any time.

Cookies

Jen May uses website cookies in order to improve the websites functionality and efficiency.  Upon entrance to the Jen May website you will be given notice in regard to the use of cookies on the site.  You may block cookies by activating the setting on your browser.  Any changes we may make to our cookie policy in the future will be posted on this page.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

 If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Student notes; data security

In order to best serve clients, brief lesson notes may sometimes be made during sessions.  These notes are confidential, non identifiable and not computerised (unless requested by client).  Notes will be kept in a locked cabinet between sessions.

Jen May only holds data for a useful period of time.

Jen May only holds data that is deemed to be useful for a clients future learning.  This information is kept securely and destroyed 2 years from the last date of contact.

Your rights

Jen May tries to be as open as it can be in terms of giving people access to their personal information.  You may at any point ask for a copy of any data held about you, you may also ask for your data to be updated or removed.

Embedded content from other websites
