As the March equinox rolls around, signalling the start of spring, there’s nowhere I’d rather be than England. This time of year has a special kind of magic, as the land awakens from its winter sleep.

The First Signs of Spring

Walking through the countryside, you start to see the early bloomers. Snowdrops and narcissi push through the cold soil, brave and bright against the earth’s dark browns. Crocuses add splashes of colour, from deep purples to vibrant yellows, while hyacinths begin to spread their sweet perfume. I adore the primroses dotted around the banks with their pale yellow flowers.

Cherry trees adorn with their pink and white blossoms that seem to announce the warmer days ahead. Green shoots of bluebells hint at the blue spectacle that’s yet to come, transforming the woodland floor to a sea of blue.

Life in the Garden

My garden is a hub of activity. The pond is alive with the sound of frogs mating and life continues to replicate it’s richness. As I wander, bees hum around my feet, busy collecting pollen.

The garden continues to give even as the season transitions. We’re still enjoying the last of the winter’s harvest – leeks, sprouts, and broccoli, bringing the taste of the colder months into the fresher days of spring.

The Sensory Experience

What truly sets spring apart are the sights, sounds, and smells. After a long winter, the sun begins to feel just that bit warmer, even when it’s still cool outside. Its rays pour through the windows, brightening up the house and warming the skin.

Spring in England is about renewal, not just in nature but in spirit too. It’s a time when everything seems possible again, as the natural world around us comes back to life.

Gratitude

I am so grateful to be alive, to have been given my life, to have my parents, my best friends around me. I am grateful for this every moment, every breath. The exuberance of my puppy running and jumping onto my bed in the morning. I feel so loved and so full of love. Despite life’s ordinary challenges, I feel incredibly blessed in my life. I need to be in the midst of nature, it’s where I truly belong. It’s there that I feel myself, at peace and at home. It’s a connection that nourishes my soul and reminds me of the simple, yet profound beauty of being alive.
